How long a deck or rooftop takes in Brooklyn

Homeowners ask two timeline questions: how long is the permit, and how long is the build. In Brooklyn those are different clocks.

We handle the paperwork. After the site visit we tell you if a permit is required, then we file with DOB, bring in an engineer when the job needs one, and work with the co-op or condo board when the building requires it.

Permits

Not every job needs a filing. Many backyard fences that stay inside height and zoning limits do not. A pergola depends on size, design, and where it sits. A rooftop almost always needs a closer look because of structure, waterproofing, and fire code.

We will not guess on your property. We review the job and tell you what applies.

The filing can take longer than the build. That is normal in New York. We start design and material lead times while the paper moves so you are not waiting twice.

The build itself

Most deck builds take about one to four weeks once we are on site, depending on size, access, and weather. From first design meeting to a finished job, most of our projects run 4 to 8 weeks. A small patio sits on the short end. A full rooftop terrace sits on the long end.

Rooftop pavers are faster on the roof itself. Once materials arrive, many terrace installs finish in a few days, with less mess than a framed deck.

You get a week-by-week schedule after the site visit. That schedule is what we work to.

What slows a job down

Board approval. Roof access that needs a hoist. Special-order railings. Weather. We flag those early so the date you hear is a real one.
